Achievements
The founder and lead Trial Lawyer of AVERY LAW FIRM, James W. "Jim" Avery has been a leading advocate of the rights of personal injury victims.  He has successfully prosecuted hundreds of claims and recovered millions of dollars for personal injury victims and their families.

Although the firm emphasizes catastrophic injury cases, all serious personal injury victims who contact the firm will receive a thorough assessment of their claim for no fee.  In addition, the firm maintains an extensive network of physicians, surgeons, psychologists, neuropsychologists, neuroradiologists, life care planners, accident reconstruction and investigative consultants and economists, as well as other experts, that are deemed the best in their fields, to the enhance the care you receive and the value of your claim.

Recently, Jim Avery tried an eight week legal malpractice trial against famed Texas lawyer John Eddie Williams, Jr., who won billions of dollars for the State of Texas in lawsuits against the tobacco companies.  John Eddie was found to have committed legal malpractice by a Houston jury, who awarded substantial money damages, related to his handling of a Telluride, Colorado airplane crash case.  Jim worked on the case as co-counsel with another famed Texas lawyer, Richard "Racehorse" Haynes, as well as former Assistant U.S. Attorney Olney Wallis and former Chief Judge of the Southern District of Texas, John Singleton.

In the 1990's, Mr. Avery handled one of the first ever "road rage" cases which resulted in extensive news coverage and publicity over the tragedy of catastrophic injury from angry drivers. A recent road rage trial resulted in a judgement of over $1,750,000.

Also in the 1990's, Mr. Avery's represented a catastrophically brain injured child, whose case obtained national news coverage of an epidimic known as "craniosynostosis", which led to a nationwide investigation of unnecessary cranial surgery on infants. The story of these lawsuits was the subject of a feature story on ABC's 20/20 with Barbara Walters and Hugh Downs, and a front page story in the Wall Street Journal.

In the 1980's, Mr. Avery handled the first case to result in a multimillion dollar civil damage award using federal racketeering laws (R.I.C.O.) to combat securities fraud. Again, the case garnered national publicity and has set a precedent for recovery of funds stolen from investors by unscrupulous brokers.
